School Uniform
Principles & Policy
It is our policy that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We also believe it is important that certain activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. We provide a complete list of the items needed for children’s school uniform in this policy and in our school prospectus.
On PE days, children come to school dressed in their PE kits. Class teachers will let you know which days these are at the start of each year.
The PTA also run a secondhand uniform scheme where all items are sold for £1. If you would like any information or to purchase items please email shalfordpta@gmail.com and someone from the PTA will be in touch.

Jewellery
On health and safety grounds, we do not allow children to wear jewellery in school. Children are allowed to wear watches in all year groups. Please do not allow your child to wear a "smart" watch or any watch that has the same functionality as a mobile phone or PC. Slimline Fiitbits may be worn, but should be removed for PE.
Earrings
Children with pierced ears should wear "sleepers" or small studs only - these are less likely to cause injury to the wearer or others.
Earrings CANNOT be worn or covered with tape during any PE activity. Children will need to remove the earrings themselves. Please note that staff are not allowed to remove or replace earrings for children.
In the case of newly pierced ears, a six-week period is needed for their ears to heal, and a child would not be able to take part in PE during this time as earrings cannot be removed. Therefore, we ask that parents wait until the end of term in July before allowing their child to have their ears pierced so that their education is not disrupted.
Hair
Long hair (beyond shoulder-length) should be tied back at all times with plain hairbands and clips only. Children should not wear items in their hair that are obvious and detract from the smart nature of the uniform, they should conform to our school colours and be subtle in size.
Coloured hair is not acceptable.
All clothing and footwear should be clearly labelled with your child’s name
