Science is a fundamental part of our daily lives, and all children have the entitlement to be taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science, as well as the achievements of famous scientists. At Shalford our intent is that learning about science through first-hand experiences is key. Our vision of a child-led approach to science enables children to confidently problem-solve and ask important questions about the universe around them and understand key concepts with a deeper level of thinking.  

We believe that all children have the right to an exciting and engaging science curriculum with opportunities to enquire, investigate and ask those 'what if?' and 'how does this work?' questions to further enhance their own learning and ensure the progress of scientific thought.

Our teaching of science through our integrated curriculum encourages strong connections between core and non-core subjects such as Literacy, Maths and Art. In addition to these cross curricular links, we pride ourselves on embedding some of our key values.  We are a values led learning school and values such as responsibility, thoughtfulness and respect are key aspects of our science teaching. We also embed our school ethos of ‘enjoying learning together’ into the planning of science, sharing our knowledge with everyone around us. As a school, we ensure that science is developed around the needs and interests of the 'whole child' where all learning is memorable, focussed and personalised for our pupils' individual needs.
